Educate Together #2

BY: MEGAN NELSON

Amanda and I have been moving along nicely with our project. Today we had an interview with Jack Horgan, who attended an Educate Together school at the primary level. We met him this morning at 9:30 at the Dublin Center Hotel. There was a library upstairs in the hotel, which worked out perfectly when we shot our footage. Jack was very helpful and provided us with a wonderful interview and a lot of useful information. It was interesting to hear the perspective of someone who had attended an Educate Together school. I have been able to learn a lot about the school system in Ireland, and I am amazed at how different it is from our system.

After we had our interview with Jack, we walked around and looked for some more B-roll for our story. We found it very difficult to find things we could use. We also had a difficult time finding a bus stop with the bus number that we needed to get back to the hotel. After walking around the city for a long time, we finally found the bus we needed to take home.

Once we got back to the hotel, we started capturing the footage and writing the script. It took a lot longer than we had predicted. We wanted to try to get our project done today, but it looks as if we’re going to have to work on it some more tomorrow and Sunday. We have to write more of our story and edit in Final Cut before the story is complete. I have had a lot of fun working on this story in Ireland, and Amanda has been a great partner.

As you’ve discovered, things usually take longer than you think they will. If possible, build in a cushion. Be prepared for the unexpected.
